The control freq is that freq with the loud static-like noise... it is what your radio tunes to to figure out what frequency to switch to for voice comms for a certain talkgroup. If your radio loses contact with that freq, it will feverishly scan in hope of recontacting it. Once it finds the control freq again, you'll start to see talkgroups pop up.
