The person Who repairs the present system. Has been going to the
Ham Clubs telling that the preposed Date is sometime in 2002.
It will take at least 17 sites through out snohomish county.
They claim the signal will get out of buildings easier.
It is my understnding that the State of Deleware is witholding
payment to motorola, because the signal does get out of buildings
as they claimed. In fact Voice Stream Wireless uses a passive
Antenna to get thier cellphone signals to the nearest cell phone
site to the building, becxause the builing blocks the signal.
I have heard the Seattle Fire Fighters can not talk to each other in
the same building.
The problem is 800 mhz has to have alot of repeaters to be able
hear the radio's that are being used. Once the repeaters go down
the radio's are useless. They can not talk diretly to each other
even though they like you to believe diffrrent. Also cell phone cites
create interference at times where the can not hear the Data Channel
the radio won't be able function.
They think they will get full county coverage better than VHF.
Yet the State Patrol in Everett on 155.660 covers all of Snohomish
County with one repeater. There are also ham repeaters that are old VHF
Police, and fire repeaters the are heard from Olympia to Vancover BC.
I have talked to people on VHF from my easy chair runnig a one watt hand
held to folks in downtown VAncover BC. This repeater is on Lyman Hill
in sedro Wooley (145.190). This won't happen on 800 MHZ.
Frankly, It is my understanding that the present 800 MHZ data Channel
used by the Snohomish Sheriff can not be from everett to Mill Creek.
I also hear that Fire Fighters in Seattle are not happy with the 800
MHZ system they presently have. I also understnd that HPD In Hawaii,
Chester County, Pa are also having thier own set of problems.
They have a web site http://www.pettyinc.com . There are police officers
who will clearly explain what problems they have had. They are asking
to get rid of the system Even though itis not a motorola system it
is the 800 mhz frequency that will give the trouble not the type of
system.
In fact the 800 MHZ phone System is what failed completly in the
Sultan Basin during thier earthquake. The will be 32 million dollars
what a waste!!!!
I have both my Ham, and Commercial FCC Licenses with twenty years
of electronics experience. This thing realy is something to worry
about in my opinion.
