Loran C is a worldwide navigation system. In the US, it is run
by the US Coast guard. It was used extensively by ships at sea
and aircraft but is now becoming obsolete due to GPS.
Loran C operates at 100 Khz down in the longwave band. The
transmitter site at George is one of several in a "chain" that
makes up the Loran C system in the northwestern US and Canada.
