: 1st I will tell you that that listening to this has not only made me cry and throw up, but has impacted me in ways heretofore unimaginable. This is not for the weak hearted. This is not for mass consumption, However i do have more than an hours worth of the audio from the event (ie. I have cleaned it up from the initial .RaM audio..converted it into clear MP3 and set levels to where the voices are clearer). But enough time has elapsed..and a growing wain for the US effort has evolved enough...for me to at least indirectly, let those (in the monitor community) who have not had access to the 9-11-01 NYCPD audio...and not searched it out..or didnt know how to..request it. Im not going to post it. E-mail me if you havent already found it, and i will send you the link to either my Yahoo folder for the cleaned audio..or the directs. Secondly...my final thought..These comms have absolutely no value to the scanner community, NONE...They show confusion, horror, Heroism, bravery..pain...and steadfastness in the face of what to the over 1200 officers and fire personnel was literaly the sky falling. There is nothing technical to be gained. all my best.

First, I have yet to take the time to listen, BUT as a professional - amatuer Communications Consultant and designer of Public Safety Communications systems - I MUST STRONGLY DIS-AGREE. There is a lot to learn. A two way radio in 1965 could ONLY talk on two or four channels at the most. Just 20 years ago very few radios had multiple channel or inter-agency or MUTUAL AID radio channels. WE - radio people - SOLVE PROBLEMS. The invention of RADIO SAVED LIVES of those at sea. While TRUNKING may work for everyday communications - MAYBE a RESERVE POOL for assigned usage MAY be the NEXT step. ALL trunked systems MAY have to have a 20 channel conventional frequncy pool FOR EMERGENCIES. A lot can and will be learned, This is NOT the end - but a BEGINNING for all of us radio freaks. I have over 35 years of radio in my blood. I personally have help build over 15% of the FM broadcast stations in the state of Oregon. I may not be rich in money - BUT there are over 110 FM channels in Oregon State. They provide NEWS and entertainment to ALL citizens of the state. Would it be better to GIVE UP and TURN OFF ALL AM RADIO STATIONS. NO. WE LEARN. WE CHANGE. I have lost 6 family members in 3 years. DEATH is also a part of life. RADIO can save lives and provide Knowledge and Understanding and join us all togather rather than apart. That is why we share this page. DO NOT GIVE UP. I beleive in RADIO and all who hold the answers in their heads and hearts. Mike McKenna
