I have a mag-mount cell phone antenna with 18dB of gain that I got from JC Whitney. It works fairly well. Definitely better than the antenna that came with the scanner. Since I haven't used any other 800MHz antennas with it, I don't have a whole lot of other data to compare it with. My apartment is pretty well-shielded -- most cell phones don't work, Ricochet barely worked even though there was a repeater on the other side of the building, etc. But I get pretty good reception with the JC Whitney antenna. And it was inexpensive.
