I Live in Moses Lake and I have Been Hearing MACC Fire Disp Tone out Local FDs using Alpa Baker Charlie Delta Codes When They Tone out Medic units. what do These Codes Mean,

In a nutshell:

Alpha Response: Take your time, no lights/siren. Grad a burger on the way.

Baker Response: A little faster. Only get coffee

Charlie Response: Lights, maybe siren.

Delta Response: Let's move! Lights, siren, clear traffic. Someone is about dead.

There was a 33 page book released on how to determine which response to use.

Just a heads up, it is illegal to drive to a emergency scene with just warning lights flashing. Even though we see Cops doing it all the time. There is a R.C.W. that states Lights & Siren will be used together.

Read (3)(b) the key words being "when necessary"

RCW 46.61.035
Authorized emergency vehicles.
(1) The driver of an authorized emergency vehicle, when responding to an emergency call or when in the pursuit of an actual or suspected violator of the law or when responding to but not upon returning from a fire alarm, may exercise the privileges set forth in this section, but subject to the conditions herein stated.

(2) The driver of an authorized emergency vehicle may:

(a) Park or stand, irrespective of the provisions of this chapter;

(b) Proceed past a red or stop signal or stop sign, but only after slowing down as may be necessary for safe operation;

(c) Exceed the maximum speed limits so long as he does not endanger life or property;

(d) Disregard regulations governing direction of movement or turning in specified directions.

(3) The exemptions herein granted to an authorized emergency vehicle shall apply only when such vehicle is making use of visual signals meeting the requirements of RCW 46.37.190, except that: (a) An authorized emergency vehicle operated as a police vehicle need not be equipped with or display a red light visible from in front of the vehicle; (b) authorized emergency vehicles shall use audible signals when necessary to warn others of the emergency nature of the situation but in no case shall they be required to use audible signals while parked or standing.

(4) The foregoing provisions shall not relieve the driver of an authorized emergency vehicle from the duty to drive with due regard for the safety of all persons, nor shall such provisions protect the driver from the consequences of his reckless disregard for the safety of others.

I was trying to find the RCW. Which one is it?

Well, I was trying to figure out if FireDawg89 and flatfoot were talking about the same RCW...

:lol: I Don't Chase anything (except my dogs when they get out of the yard), I Started Hearing these Codes a couple of weeks ago, ag it got my attn. These codes ar also applied to Fire calls,

Emergency vehicles do not have to use sirens all the time. Thanks to Flatfoot for posting the RCW above. Read RCW 46.61.035 (3)(b) where it says they need to use sirens when necessary to warn vehicles. I have driven them all, police cars and motorcycles, fire trucks, and ambulances. There are certainly times when I do not use the siren. In residential areas I don't because small kids like to run out into the street to see what the noise is.

All emergency vehicle operators should know that if you get in an accident and you didn't have it on...not good!
