So, did anyone find out why Sultan Fire is supposedly going to abandon the TRS and SNOPAC? And I wonder who else they could contract for dispatch? It all seems a bit odd to me.

Per my contact, they want out of the TRS for coverage issues, cost of equipment issues, and service issues.

Coverage- Dead zones, blackouts, etc.

Costs- Initial costs and upgrades for NB digital in a few years.

Service- Paging especially seems to be the main issue. Lots of fire guys are apparently not getting alpha pages from SNOPAC (?), to the point that they only know about fires when units pass them.

They've already optioned 460.500 through the FCC for use as a repeater, the pending file number is 0002974171.

There might be some dead zones for the Alpha Digital Pagers. I know the Chief for Goldbar and he has issued Uniden BC-246 scanners to everyone in his Dept.

But as far as leaving SNOPAC, easier said then done.

That's kind of interesting. You would think SNOPAC is somewhat obligated to provide an equal or better service because of the contract. And if that did not happen, then board of commissioners could really put the squeeze on them.

I also have a hard time believing that the cost of
1. Hiring a 3rd party radio consultant
2. Developing a new system
3. Buying new equipment
4. Contracting a new dispatch center
Is more cost effective than working out the dispatching issues with SNOPAC.

Just my 2 cents worth

That would appear to be your problem.

I don't care who has a hard time believing what, I'm simply passing on information to those "on the ground" who can make use of it. All I've typed has been directly from the horse's mouth and 100% correct per said horse. If someone doesn't like the info, feel free to let me know and I'll quit posting it.

Have a nice day.

I beg to differ. I have no problem. It's just an opinion. That's all.

The Chief issued them Pre-Programed. I'm willing to bet he loaded everything on them that the 800Mhz. Radios have. Everybodies 800Mhz Radio has the same Talk Groups, the only differance is My A Bank might be Everetts B Bank. But we all have the same including Police.

Vah! Denuone Latine loquebar?

:D :D :D Te audire no possum. Mussa sapientum fixa est in aure. ( I can't hear you . I have a Banana in my ear. ) LOL Face it. I'm better at this. --- Sultan does have an application request to use UHF - on 460.50 R/M --not 460.55. And 460.60 would be a better frequency. The application requests both analog and digital - voice and data -- so it could be used for both Dispatch / operations and mobile data. We will just have to wait -- and see. It does appear that Sultan is in a hole -- some what. And there are a few cell towers close by the town. But the Snohomish County PUD has a site for its 900 mhz trunked system -- just down the road. I would go for a single channel -- 800 mhz fill-in channel -- or use the UHF as a "Fill-in" and inter-connect it to the 800 mhz trunked system. Thus -- dispatch could still remain as is -- and yet have better radio coverage -- and still be connected to the 800 mhz system --. See -- I am better at this. MTM

Yeah, per the source I have, that PUD site is atop some sort of dam with a huge line-of-sight.

I DID type 460.500 (You made me doubt myself for a second ;)

Gotta run, sentio aliquos togatos contra me conspirare.

I'm sure some of them have download the software or learn to program those scanners.
