I do believe that Renton Fire, like many other Valleycom fire agencies, has switched over to alphanumeric paging and station alerting.

Many Valleycom departments no longer use tone and voice paging/alerting. Alphanumeric paging is way faster than tone and voice.

You may still here some toning on 154.070, even for departments that are now using all alphanumeric paging. This is usually during the transition period. Once a department has ironed-out all the bugs with alpha paging, the tones are dropped.

Looks like Valley will drop all T&V paging come January. Alpha only there after

At this moment, Renton, Maple Valley, Dist. 47, Mountain View, Pacific, Tukwila, and Dist. 20 still use two tone paging on 154.070. Everybody else is now on alpha.

For some reason some of the people that have been on alpha for quite some time (Burien, Auburn) have been having the two tone pages fire lately. Anybody know why?

Some Fire Depts. will still use Tones to activate Station lights at night and open up speakers. They tried Digital by itself and it is to fast to activate those systems.

Lot of use of 152.0075 for paging -- including Valley-Com.

FireDawg89: I know first-hand that most do not use tones for activation of station devices. Most user agencies in valleycom use a alphanumeric decoder designed for fire station use.

The device has multiple outputs for devices, such as PA, lights, door locks, kitchen appliance shut-off, alert chimes, etc. The PA (radio) is not VHF on 154.070, rather it is Valleycom Fire-1 on 800 MHz.
