GPS....for location based scanning. You can set the lat long for specific systems in your scanner and the scanner will turn on and off systems within the radius to the mid point and range that you set.

It works and I'm happy with it. Probably about the same as the stock antenna just more manageable.

This is by far the best wideband antenna for the 396xt or PSR-800:

I have one in each SMA and BNC.

For compactness, I use Laird 866Mhz whip or a band-specific whip.
