Heard 44824 chirp a few times this morning as I was playing with the scanner during today's BPD incident.

Sounds like another NARC/Vice channel...

Question for Sean...

Was reading about the status bits online.

So 44824 is really 44816 right? The ID+8 is the "encrypted" TGID..?

If 44816 is analog and 44824 is digital/encrypted -- does 44824 "take over" 44816? i.e. you can't use both channels at the same time?

As far as Motorola is concerned they are both the same channel. Only 12 bits of the 16 total bits define the talk group and they are the same. The status bits are additional modifiers added to the actual talkgroup. Using the total 16 bits for a Talkgroup ID is only a mistake made by the scanner industry and early scanner pioneers based on faulty reverse engineering and keeping an 8 bit mentality which industry doesn't need to limit itself to.

Roger that. So on our scanners we should always disable the status bits?
