Ha. I thought you were kidding.

Nope,

We have this one that you hear. The ones that you hear when the air is closed on the Police/SO side, and one that just tripple tones as long as you hold the button down.

Im not really sure how I feel about using the Hi-Lo's for this. Back in my Vol FF days, You hear the Hi-Lo's going off... It ment get the heck out of the structure...

That explains why the duration of the tone is not always the same.

Given a little bit of time, it will be OK, and we all should end up on the same sheet of "music" :D

Till then, it is yet another added step that we have to go through. I am a fan of the district tones, or get rid of them all. Im having a bear of a time setting off tones, and then waiting what seems like forever for the pagers to go off so I can start my verbal dispatch.

It will work itself out in due time. Till then, I just have to make it work

SNOCOM does weekly "Abandon the structure" tones test. They are the same 3 beep tones that are used when SNOPAC closes the air for PD/SO. So maybe that is what SNOPAC uses too.

It would seem logical that the same tones are used as for all the agencies work together so often.

I can't say what we use at Valleycom. Never heard them.

"Three Alert Tones" seems to be the generic.

If I were in charge...

We would ditch the tones now. Just voice it...

" Monroe standby for page".... wait for the pagers, and voice it...

Save the "Alert Tones" for the important situations.

Ken.
You can certainly tell that your voice has digital sounding artifacts to it now.

SERS migrated from Smartzone 4.1Z to Smartzone 7.8, this will allow SERS to migrate to APCO P25 Phase 2 over the next few years along with replacing the Gold Elite TDM consoles with MCC7500 IP consoles. More importantly the upgrade was done region wide over the last 18 months between King County RCB members, City of Tacoma, SERS and the Port of Seattle allowing a level of interoperabilty the region has not enjoyed in the past.

The modified district tones used by SNOPAC went away because the new vocoders are not capable of reproducing them properly. You will notice the dispatcher sounds different now since the system converts analog to digital back to analog, but when SERS move fully digital those artifacts are eliminated.

So Mark, how many years do we have before we have to shell out for a Digital scanner ?

SERS is currently mapping the migration, the migration plan today for P25 Phase 2 is targeting around 2017 to 2020.
