Heard south king county metro transit bus system up here today on 453.375mhz in Vancouver BC....uhf conditions were real good, hardly any noise on the frequency for that distance :D

Sounded quite busy down that way .. bus versus a construction gate overhanging one of the lanes on the east channel bridge...dispatcher gave a warning to all buses about the overhanging gate but it was too late,
one coach smacked into the gate, taking out one of the buses side mirrors.

last bit of excitement hear, was an operator somewhere around Renton had an unruly passenger on the bus smashinhg the windows out...dispatcher loudly told the operator to stop the bus, open all the doors and get away from the bus asap...cops were being called

ahhh Just a normal day in the seattle area I see

Clallam has gone to sector dispatch.

West is on the old Sheriff's freq for now. 453.275 NB. And will eventually change to 453.375.

Central is on the Port Angeles Freq. 460.100

East is on the Sequim Freq. 453.300

Anyone know about a FDMA/CQPSK system on 770.1875?

Very strong signal in Bellevue but it doesn't ID. Looks like it has no activity either. Couldn't find any FCC records either.

Hmm, no FCC listing for it. Perhaps it's the new WSP test trunk. :P

And believe it or not, they only put out about 80 watts, into old Motorola T1500 type duplexers ( probably nearly 3 dB of loss).
But we used 7/8's air feedline and 6 dB gain antennas.
Rattlesnake, Gold, Grass and Kings Garden likely would have a path to VAN.
Maybe even Squak.
Yeah, not gonna do that on 700/800.
I now believe that UHF is really the radio sweet spot for coverage Vs. penetration.

I had a customer in Texas, an SMR operator, who sold his 800 licenses to Nexthell, then rebuilt his system on 450/460 (and pocketed the difference$ !!!).

He disagrees re: 450 vs. 800 "in building" penetration.

He (and his staff) were convinced his 800 LTR system penetrated far better than 450. He held 140 licenses (132 were FB8) when I visited him in '05, with over 8000 subscriber units loaded on his system, so he is not a small time operator.

What is interesting about his experience is, he replaced the 800 MHz system with 450/460 MHz in EXACT same sites. Most are 500' towers, one is 1000', all in southern Texas.

I always found that interesting...

In building penetration? Yep. Seen that on our 900 system. But where the turnaround can happen is passing a grove of trees in a fringe coverage area will see upwards 10-12dB and more of attenuation on the rf... We have an area in particular over west of Seattle up a river valley where we have 450 and 155mHz on the same tower, antennas share same crossarms split rx tx antenna systems Both transmitters at 45 watts. Coverage 9 miles in for VHF works for portables talk-out and a very scratchy talk-in. UHF portable use is barely audible both directions and any cell phone goes away the first mile... To be fair cell phone sites are no where as high as our site but you get the idea... 900 worked great in the dessert...

Keeping stuff out of your high site receivers is usually the trick. VHF hovers around 4-6dB of site noise, UHF (458 and 468 for us) no site noise, and 896 on Maynard for us was over 20dB when Nextel moved in next door. Santiago Peak down south saw on 896-901mHz 4-mid 16dB or so over my time there... so lots of variables... there are so many more chances for harmonics and mixes by the time you get up to 800.

Sys ID/NAC of 001 looks like something new is coming online.

Full scale on the PSR-500. Today it's a 1004 hz P25 test tone with a NAC of 293.
