Hello friends... my name is Roland, new to the forum. I may be in the wrong forum for this, if so please direct me to the proper place. But for now, I have a couple of questions before I spend some money for a good quality am / fm radio with good sound quality. When I first began this quest, I thought I wanted the RCA Super radio... but then I started reading reviews.. most were positive but being an analog radio, alot of people had negative things to say about the accuracy of the slide tuning scale.. not only that, in my search for this radio I have come across 2 different model numbers, and both radios are very different according to price...

1- Rca Rp 7-2887A ( $180.00 )
2- Rca Rp 7887 ( around $50 to $60 )

The picture displayed for both of these units is exactly the same... can someone tell me if these units are one in the same or is there some difference that I've not been able to figure out...

My 1st choice at this time is the Ccrane 2 ( am/fm/2meter ham/ wx band ). Cost on this is around $160, but reviews are very good, it's digital and has quite a few bells and whistles.... opinions? recommendations between these or other brands? I appreciate your input and look forward to your replys. Thanks again.

Roland

They are the same radio to the best of my knowledge. I can't believe some idiot lists these at $180. The 7-2887A can be found new on ebay for $70 which is still on the high side. The original GE SuperRadios were good for their time, each version seemed to have some pros and cons. The big plus is a larger than usual ferrite rod for the AM antenna. The big minus is the tuning dials have always been inaccurate. This will drive you up the wall if you are trying to listen to DX especially near the top of the band. More recent Thomson/RCA models have cheap volume pots.

It was a good radio for its time but the CCradio2 is more modern. The digital tuning is sharp and has 1khz accuracy. The internal ferrite antenna is big and quite sensitive. It doesn't seem to be as cheaply built as the SuperRadio. Perhaps thats why it costs more. I've used and owned all these radios at one time or another.

I own a CCrane SW.
At night I've tuned in AM stations from all over western North America.
The build quality is fine.
The audio is great/ full.
I haven't play with SW much, I need to string an outdoor longwire.
I only wish the old all-night programs didn't sell out to the satellite company(s). Not much left.

With the C Crane SW, press & hold the 'Alarm' button while pressing the 'Snooze' bar.
This will terminate the annoying end of band beep.
Procedure is not in operators manual.

I too own a CCrane radio. As the others have said it is a very good radio. Great reproduction and it will pull in distant stations with ease. I don't think you would be disappointed with one. Check their website. http://www.ccrane.com/ :P

i bought a SuperRadio a couple years back. Sounds great but the tuning dial feature broke within a month. Total waste of money. So most of the reviews of this would be on spot..
