Take a look at these pics and see if you notice anything....





On the 2nd pic you notice in the lower right hand side you will see something in a triangle formation. This is the radar control site (S-03) for the Nike Missile system. The big pit you see is the Lake Forrest Park Reservoir that is being constructed. The Missiles part were in Bothell which is now FEMA REG X. If you go there today, it is now a park and the radar pads are still there. A total of 11 batteries were installed around the Puget Sound. To learn more go to

There was a surprising amount of Nike stuff in Western WA.
Lots out around Redmond, Education Hill, Lake Youngs, etc.
Not like in the Dakota's, but pretty cool anyway.
Metric turdloads of money spent on that stuff, and only for a couple of years.
What a waste.
Then again, the technology improvements were enormous.
A couple of Ham friends worked at Lake Youngs back in the 60's while in the Army.
Another friend (Ham) that passed away last year spent most of his life as a missile tech, starting out back when they were all tube ( as in thermionic valve ) controls.
He started that at the Redstone Arsenal.
Having spent MANY months over 20 some years there, He and I shared a common interest.
I used to go looking for that cold war stuff in King County during the 70's and 80's.
Now its pretty hard to find there.
Much easier to find interesting stuff like that here in Nevada.

I've been to a pretty decently intact Nike site in Lancaster, NY which is right outside of Buffalo. Buffalo had several sites in the area in addition to Lockport AFS, which I think controlled the whole Nike System...
