That's what mine says. I've had a set for 3 years, still sealed in the box.

I can't stand most tire stores, Les is off my list for awhile.

I heard about the front wheel option too, I was more worried about screwing up the AWD as it needs to sample all 4 wheels and also clearance. The cable chains seems to clear the struts better.

I go to the one on 122nd & Division and never have any issues. Ask for Brad or Bill and tell him I sent you!

However, if I go to the one in Aloha, they are awful.

The one in Downtown Puyallup is fan-freaking-tastic, service-wise.

Free beef? I want the pepperoni party pack.

Oh God, I need to get to the Hillshire Farms store before Christmas shoppers clean them out. :!:

Your AWD car is a FWD car unless you start to slip then the rear wheels pick up the slack or spin. Most of the time you are front wheel drive. Of course they say not to put chains on. Some moron probably put them on the rear wheels and got in an accident. Put them on the front wheels and you will be fine. Yeah, it's fine to say you don't need chains. You don't unless you have idiots that stop in front of you. Most of the vehicles that went off the roads were SUV's or 4x4's. People thinking they could drive the speed limit and to hell with the rest. AWD or 4X4 does nothing for you when you have to stop.

Back to that momentum deal. I've driven 1,000's of miles on compact snow and ice with regular tires and done fine like most have. You get the idiots that don't know how to drive and freak out and you are screwed. It happens every time we have an event like this. You would think people would learn, but they don't. Those are the ones that need chains! I see SDOT had a brain fart and they will be putting out small trucks with sanders. Well duh!.....took them this long to figure that out.

Our Jetta (may it rest in peace) was fantastic in the snow.

However when it got real bad, we put chains on the front and pressed the button - as instructed - to disable the traction control system.

K7CAR, you should've seen Crystal Mountain Blvd yesterday! I was zooming around in the Forester, watching people slip and slide all over...Watched an F150 with no weight in the bed slide around every corner; the woman driving it was in tears by the time we got to "D" lot.

I've driven a full size Ford SUV at 105mph, during a blizzard, with temps of -25*, six inches of standing snow over compact stuff, all while trying to down a cup of coffee, talk on the radio, change siren tones at the intersections, and unlock, charge, and sling a rifle....Washington in the snow is a joke comparatively.

Those Expeditions were a pig on the EVOC course.

I'm amazed the transfer case in the Expedition could handle that speed in 4WD! On my Jeep Cherokee with the NP231 transfer case, you should not go above 55 MPH...

Yeah they could.
I've owned a couple Fords, I've owned a couple Cherokees, and there were a couple in the motor pool.
Jeeps were very forgiving, quick on the EVOC.

The Fords will hold speed when they hit the 'limiter', the Tahoe's would turn off, so to speak. But the Chev's sure rode better, and seemed to 'wind-up' quicker. They seemed lighter than the Expeditions.

I don't know of any department that runs a non pursuit rated vehicle on an EVOC course. The only 4 wheel drive pursuit rated vehicle to ever be offered in the US was the Jeep Cherokee. Even then the guys ran the courses in 2 wheel drive.

Now with the availability of AWD in the upcoming Fords (Taurus and SUV http://www.ford.com/fordpoliceinterceptor/ ) it will be interesting to see the course times... Ford did not submit the new cars to this years test so we will have to wait.

The Ford Expedition (all versions) and Chevrolet Tahoe (4WD version) were not pursuit rated and therefore should not be allowed on an EVOC training coarse. Although crazier things have been allowed...

Jefferson County runs winter tires on their cars but keep several 4WD vehicles in the fleet for such winter events. I haven't seen Kitsaps replacements for the Durango's they ran...

Blows me away that the WSP guys can run their cars in some of the conditions we saw here a few weeks ago...

In the end it all comes down to the the least prepared person out there with the bald tires and crappy snow vehicle. If you have 20 people in front of you sliding and spinning out you are SOL if it turns into a CF ahead of you. Fine those people and push their vehicle off the road!...... :D

IIRC, the Humvee is pursuit rated too, but who would want to.
Off road perhaps.

Jeep Cherokee's on the standard 70 series tire that came on the police package would corner almost as well as the Crown Vics did of that era... Problem was that some agencies liked to run bigger tires on them and make them taller.

I dont recall the Humvees being tested as pursuit rated but would have to review all the test data. where they able to top 100mph?

The 2011 Chevy Caprice did very well in the Michigan tests this year. It will come down to winter performance around here Im betting.
