I think they miss the mark on a few things... Like e-readers, which are a great way to buy and carry hundreds of books, all in a really small package...

I'll keep a landline around. The cell infrastructure is crap is this country IMO, to rely solely on wireless at home. And it's a real phone powered by their circuit.

that shit is lame, its a bunch of suits that have no idea they just talk about buzz words

they also say the future is "virtual" and "cloud"

this "news story" angers me...

start rant...

WHAT THE FUCK combustion engine yea that is a dying technology just like the heart I dont think i will use my engine any more.. fucking retarded.
consumer video camera's yea the old VHS tape is dead but if they think that consumers will not be posting to you tube and collecting boring home video they have got a stick up there ass
desktop TOWER PC's, yes if you consider a smoke stained yellow tower PC normal then yes those are dead.. now tower pc's are white and part of a home entertainment system

DVD's and Blu ray ( I totally agree with that one)

digital music players "I have my iphone so why do I need a IPOD" yes I guess we can also argue that the tape walkman is also dead as a portable music device

e-readers... what the fuck is a tablet. oh by the way the tablet was popular in 1998 and you also said it was "on the way out technology" guess you didnt get that one right business week. fuck.

fax machines... ha tell that to EVERY hospital, legal department, county office... retards

game consoles... this points out my total bullshit of this whole page.. they will actually rule the world one day.

this was the quote for pagers "The bottom line is that pagers are still far superior to cell phones when it comes to reliability"
and its dieing how? last time I checked every datacenter monkey I know owns one

dash mounted GPS... yes they will die as soon as we eliminate the fly over states.. until however every family makes over 80k a year and can buy a new car this is total bullshit. (and yes cell phones can do that, but do you know how evil that is?)

KEYS!!! WHAT THE HELL? turns out light the lightbulb we are going to ditch this as well.

landline telephones... they are just so darn reliable however... cant tell you the last time it dropped my call

Metronomes ?! is that technology? I am quite sure that people that own Metronomes and use them choose not to use "technology"

PDA's wtf ...its called a cell phone you just padded this to make a nice even 20 ..what about your precious Ipad?

power cords... really? I dont need to blend ANYWHERE

/rant

I'd like to address a few as well...

Credit cards: basically they're talking about the same thing except a chip instead of a mag stripe. Call it something else, it's still a credit card.

Fax machines: Guess the author has never been in a real office. Or a government office.

Game consoles: Again, they describe a device that's the same as the one they believe is obsolete.

Pagers: The article says it itself: "Until cell phones are reliable in large hospital complexes and on deserted highways, pagers will be used by doctors, EMTs, and firefighters who must respond quickly to emergencies." And that's not gonna happen. What carrier wants to build out into an area with .25 people per square mile?

Landlines: Actually agree with this one. But I need something that'll pipe my ringer into more than just the room where the phone is.

3D TV: This dies every few years and gets brought back up again somehow.

PDAs: You turtleneck douchebag phone is a PDA!

Remotes: Motion sensing TV? Are you kidding?

I think the author got high on the apple kool aid when writing this article. The iPhone is not the greatest device ever--Apple's marketing just succeeded in making you think that it is.

The landlines comment scares me, as I work for 911...and landlines are the only ones that dump your ANI/ALI, and we can actually find you if you call... Cell phones are still a crap shoot, PHS2 wireless is pretty good, but not always that accurate. I have seen it as far as 4 miles off... I for one tell people to keep their landline, and if you have anyone elderly, a landline is a must... When someone can't talk we can send someone to help...

John C. Dvorak of PC Magazine fame, he once explained how these lists get made up. Its pretty much a lunch time conversation with the other writers then in the afternoon, it gets written up and thats it.

Amen to the landline, and I do mean the copper (non-canle tv based) kind.

Last major outage our area was out 8 days. Thats when I discovered that, as long as local (AC) grip power is down, SO is the cable, thus SO is the cable TV based telephone!

Almost everyone with a landline anymore uses portable phones... Which as most smart people will think about, will not work during a power outage... Go to goodwill, buy one of those rockin minty green $2 50's style phones... During outage, plug in... enjoy phone service during power outage... People will call 911 from their cell and say, well I don't have phone at home because the power is out... No, you have phone...just don't have power to run the hi-tech stuff...

The FCC and Congress want to get rid of ALL over the air Television Broadcasting and move all TV Broadcasters over to the internet. MONEY. Big Bucks. Selling off the TV Channel Spectrum to Cellphone companies to the highest bidder at auction. This is NO JOKE. Its Real. (H.R. 5947, S.B. 6310 and 3756).
