Bought one for $35 I'll get it on Monday. Anyone have one? I know it has good and bad reviews.

I had one over 20 years ago, it was a great rig for mil-air. It was not the best scanner in the world,but it is way more than that. I also had the video card in mine. I remember having it out at Hillsboro in 89 (give or take a year) to watch the Blue Angels.

Yes it works but over 400mhz he said it was a little weak. I didn't care about that, something about it I had to have it. It was a "radio-thing"

Well, if it works... Actually they all are a bit "deaf" above 460 Mhz...
but nothing a good, low-noise preamp couldn't fix...
I have two of them...
Both have the NTSC video output... Great for ATV RX!!! The PLL on both of mine get a bit "wonky" at less than 13VDC going in the power hole, but, having the all-mode RX capability (including SSB!:-) has sure been fun over the years...

One I keep on the "test bench" to listen to stuff... The other sits right next to the PRO 2006 and under a Kenwood RZ-1! Remember those???
My RZ-1 has a dead display but by playing "blind man" I can usually load a single frequency into it and "park" it there... usually WSP area...

Did the mod on it now it gets 20-950 mhz. Need an antenna, didn't come with one.
What would be a good antenna?
Does it need to be an outside one?

Mod??? I guess I will have to research that...
Outside antennae always better... Discones do wide bandwidth but are unity gain... Use the lowest loss feedline you can "afford"... Bear in mind I have scavenged 1-5/8" hardline I can use... and commercial antennas!!!

One thing I plan on doing to mine one day is changing out the SO 239 connector and replacing with Type N... Should help out the loss issue above 400 Mhz...

For right now I'm going to get an adapter from ratshack so I can use a scanner antenna ....UHF to BNC

An N connector is much better above 400MHz. The PL259 and SO239 are very old in the design, some would argue anything above 50MHz should use not them. I'm not that critical of them myself though, as long as they are put on correctly and the coax not damaged by heat they are still good up to the 460 range.
