Charges Filed in Relation to Last Week’s Shootings
Spokane Police Major Crimes Detectives have now determined that several events surrounding two shooting incidents last week are related. Three arrests have been made and several charges have been filed in relation to these incidences.
On December 22, 2009, at 8:45pm, Spokane Police patrol officers responded to a shooting call in the 1100 block of West Frederick. There, a group of people was shining a laser light out the front window of a residence in the direction of a second group outside in the street. The groups confronted each other in the front yard of the residence where a verbal altercation ensued. As the groups separated, a white male later identified as Tony Dawson, returned to their location and fired a handgun in the direction of the residence. An 18 year old male was found to have a gunshot wound to his back.
Major Crimes Investigators set up a perimeter and patrol officers guarded the scene until daylight when investigators could return to gather more evidence.
On December 23, 2009, at 4:40am, a woman was inside her 1993 Ford Bronco in the 1100 block of East Sanson. She was approached by a white male suspect, who attempted to steal her car. The male was later identified as Tony Dawson. Dawson smashed the driver’s side window with a handgun and used that gun to assault her. He continually pushed the victim towards the passenger's side seat. The victim was able to drive away as Dawson attempted to hold on to her.
Just after 5am on December 23rd, in the 1600 block of East Rowan, a woman was warming up her Suburban. She had gone back inside her home, when a white female got into her vehicle and drove it away. That female was later identified as Margaret Shults. The victim called police to report her car as stolen. The vehicle information was given to patrol officers in the area. Shults drove the vehicle away and a short time later picked up Dawson and a second male, later identified as Greg Sharkey.
While maintaining perimeter security at the shooting scene in the area of 1100 West Frederick, Officer Kris Honaker spotted the stolen Suburban drive past him. He immediately recognized this as the same Suburban stolen just minutes prior and made a traffic stop on the vehicle. Officer Honaker pulled the vehicle over in the area of Alice and Madison. As the officer exited his vehicle, Dawson leaned out the rear passenger’s side window and fired shots directly at Officer Honaker, striking his patrol vehicle.
Tony E. Dawson, 20, has been charged with one count of Attempted First Degree Murder, one count of Attempted First Degree Robbery, one count of First Degree Robbery, three counts of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and ten counts of First Degree Assault.
Margaret D. Shults, 22, has been charged with one count of First Degree Robbery.
Greg Sharkey, 25, has been charged with one count of Attempted First Degree Robbery and one count of First Degree Robbery.

Three Legged Chicken

A man was driving along a rural road one day when he saw a three legged chicken running down the road. He was amused enough to drive along side it for a while, as he was driving he noticed the chicken was running 30 mph.

Pretty fast chicken, he thought, I wonder just how fast it can run. So he sped up and the chicken did too! They were now moving along the road at 45 mph!

The man in the car sped up again, to his surprise the chicken was still running ahead of him at 60 mph!!!

Suddenly the chicken turned off the road and ran down a long driveway leading to a farmhouse. The man followed the chicken to the house and saw a man in the yard with dozens of three legged chickens. The man in the car called out to the farmer "How did you get all these three legged chickens?"

The farmer replied, "I breed 'em. Ya see it's me, my wife and my son living here and we all like to eat the chicken leg. Since a chicken only has two legs, I started breeding this three legged variety so we could all eat our favorite piece."

"That's amazing!" said the driver "How do they taste?"

"Don't rightly know, I ain't caught one yet!"

the police car had pulled in front of me for some reason and there was a driver in the seat with his foot on the break.

I awoke to brake lights, my car running me in the drivers seat and my last memory of being sleepy while driving

I screamed, hit the clutch and breaks and then looked over to see a WSP knocking on my window rather alarmed at this point

I then explained that I was too tired to drive and had to take a nap to safely make it home.

he had no humor and told me that I had to get off the road if I chose to do that

yea you cant technically sleep on a freeway pavement which includes a ramp, just would have enjoyed some forgiveness in that case but what ever. it was quite a experience to wake up like that

Spokane Police Save Suicidal Male in Heroic Fashion
Spokane Police Officers C. Douville and C. Johnson put their own lives on the line to save a 36 year old male who attempted to fall to his death off the Maple St Bridge early this morning.
On November 24th, 2010 at 3:13 AM, Spokane Police Officers S. Arredondo, C. Douville, and C. Johnson responded to a welfare check at the Maple St Bridge. The caller was a passerby and observed a male in dark clothing walking on the roof of the outside enclosed chain link walkway. Ofc Arredondo was the first to arrive and observed the male walking on top of the outside chain link walkway and attempted to convince the male to come off the roof. The male refused and was walking away from Ofc Arredondo from the roof. Ofc Douville and Ofc Johnson arrived and climbed the top of the chain link and met up with the suicidal male.
The suicidal male saw Ofc Douville and Ofc Johnson and began crawling down the outside of the chain link towards the Spokane River. Ofc Douville and Ofc Johnson dropped on their stomachs and reached out grabbing the suicidal subject who was now sliding off the side of the chain link. Ofc Johnson grabbed the suicidal male's left arm as Ofc Douville grabbed his right arm. The suicidal male began pulling his right arm trying to break Ofc Douville's hold. Ofc Douville was able to grab the suicidal male's back pack straps and jacket with both hands.
The suicidal male told the officers several times, "Let me go it's my time to die!" and made no attempt to hang on to anything. CPL D. Beckley arrived and Ofc Arredondo asked him to get the bolt cutters from his trunk. CPL Beckley retrieved the bolt cutters and began cutting a hole from inside the walkway. Ofc Douville and Ofc Johnson held the suicidal male for well over 5 minutes with bare hands in negative degree weather until other officers were able to cut a large enough hole in the chain link and pull the suicidal male to safety.
The suicidal male was examined by the Spokane Fire Department and transported by AMR ambulance to a local area hospital for mental evaluation.
