So, all week I've been getting weird Spanish text messages, and a few (unanswered) calls from a Mexican restaurant on Granville Street in Vancouver BC.

Just now, I get a text from an unknown 253 area code number...It says, and get this:
Quote:
ur bill is overdue. pls text ur credit card #, expiry date and security code, plus the amout u want to pay back to this number

Upon calling this 253 number, it goes direct to voice mail of someone named "Gunt".

Could this be a scam??!!!111 oh noes!

Isn't 253 area code in the area of Pierce County?

I used to get cell phone calls from some small kids speaking Spanish and traced the call to be coming from somewhere in the southeast part of the U.S. if I remember right. I think they were on a cell phone programmed with the wrong area code.

253 roughly serves everyone south of (but not including) Des Moines and north of Nisqually, east of Renton, and west to Gig Harbor. Specifically, it's Auburn, Bonney Lake, Burley, Covington, Dupont, Federal Way, Fife, Fort Lewis, Fox Island, Gig Harbor, Graham, Kent, Lakewood, Lake Tapps, McChord Air Force Base, Milton, Parkland, Puyallup, Roy, Sumner, Spanaway, Steilacoom, Tacoma, and University Place.
It really confuses people when you tell them you live in Seattle and have a 253 number.

Wil, you should learn some Spanish and call back pretending to be INS.
