There are several types of systems that do basically what you want, except that authorities generally do not permit any type of automated system to directly dial 911 - you must go through some type of alarm monitoring service (such as ADT, Protection One, etc).

Since this is a bit off-topic for this forum, feel free to email me if you want to discuss further: info@silvaconsultants.com

Alarm companies were setting up alarm systems here in Yakima to auto-dial 911 when the alarm went off. That was a big no-no and is forbidden. 911 Manager was pretty pissed when his 911 call takers were receiving recordings... And I'm sure it would have progressed into something like this:

"911...what's your emergency?...Have you ever wanted to increase that certain part of your anatomy? Are your lending rates way to high and you'd like to refinance in these troubling economic times? Oh by the way, the alarm is going off at 123 Yakima Ave. Brought to you by Protection One."

Legal post: Why would Wal-Mart want to use channel 1 on their radios for data transmissions whenever they feel like it?

Prior to the 1980's, many of the smaller police departments in the area (Des Moines, Mercer Island, etc.) actually used to monitor burglar and hold-up alarms directly. They had a small monitoring console that had a separate module for each business that was being monitored, and a leased telephone line was used to connect the premises to the PD. The customer paid for the equipment at both ends as well as the cost of the telephone lines.

Towards the end, many of these same departments also had special telephone numbers where automated voice alarm messages could be received. The technology at the time was a "tape dialer", which had a continuous loop of audio tape that would dial the PD's special phone number and play a prerecorded alarm message.

To my knowledge, none of the local departments directly monitor private alarms of any type any more.

There's an elevator in a parking garage in Beaverton, OR here that the emergency button actually dials 911 and plays a continuous voice recording saying "THERE IS AN EMERGENCY IN THE BEAVERTON ROUND PARKING ELEVATOR. THE ADDRESS IS 100 WATSON ST. PLEASE SEND POLICE AND FIRE."

I accidentally pressed it once instead of the UP button and I expected police to show up so I waited and no one showed up. I'm wondering now if WCCCA just ignores it now.
