Don't know if you guys have heard, but in 2 weeks, Uniden is releasing a firmware upgrade for their XT models. It'll feature unit/radio ID monitoring on all of their supported trunk types. They also hint at additional features as well but didn't say exactly what those were.

Quote:
This update will let you see the Unit ID for transmissions on Motorola, EDACS, and (for the digital models) P25 Trunked systems. Additionally, if you store the Unit ID in a channel and alpha tag the ID, then you'll be able to see the alpha tag instead of the numeric ID (which can be difficult to parse when you want the info at a glance).

you havent made up your mind yet on the new radio have you :D

I thought the XT's did this out of box?!? that was part of the big deal that GRE had it and they didnt.

damn uniden for not putting this into the firmware for the older but not dead units. sigh... cant come close to justifying the change out of all my trunkers. just finally got them all on the "last" platform!

No, you're thinking of the P25 NAC. The NAC is like a CTCSS tone for ham radio. That's totally different.

The unit/radio ID lets you know exactly *who* is transmitting... now, I didn't claim to know why this is useful information. Perhaps someone can enlighten us... I suppose if it's a "unit" ID then that could be useful. I think a radio ID wouldn't be as fun.

@taco yup

hrm I thought the radio did that I must have read about this "future support" as the GRE will do this as well.

Its actually quite useful if you care. for instance officers normally share with a partner a car or "own the radio" (they don't own but they take home etc) the radio they have. So if you know a officer, you can make sure to listen to them do the job. I wouldn't say its ground breaking for instance this is all things that the "UniTrunker" software has done for years. but I guess its sort of fun to have on the radio, its decoding the data anyway... why not put it on the screen

If anyone listens to the Muckleshoot Casino TRS, shoot me a PM for a big list of radio IDs.
