I was told that analog has totaly gone now,
and we have a new wave radio scanners that are digital and yet PC programable.
These are very nice but there are very expensive from the price range of $489.99 up to over $599.99.
even on ebay I seen bids going though the roof for these, with the ression going on don't know any body spend that much for a digital scanner I never know, unless the person is rich and have a great job. can some one tell me why they charge such a high price for new item? Because I don't get it.

New band I think instead of your good ol Analog they replace it with digital singals.
they pooh poohed Analog, I think it's stupid
but digital has to do with trunked systems
next thing the go to mircowave singals the they raise the price of those scanners.

they say your analog scanner pooh pooh and they want you to get a digital scaaner instead
and they want you to pay out the butt for 1,like $499 up to $599.
Stupid to charge such a price during a ression, which you rather do?
pay your rent or mortage and pay your bills or buy $599 for digital scanner?

Real CASH for clunker scanners. Hell -- I'm rich. It's like I just won the lotto. I must have 30 Plus units -- maybe more. LOL While LAPD (Los Angeles City PD ) has moved over to Digital -- there are very FEW others that have. It will come -- in small waves -- in the larger Urban -- metro areas first. But -- because of the ression -- most government agencies are also short on cash -- and it will take several years to happen. Why is GRE and Radio Shack charging the BIG BUCKS. Because there are only a very few companies building and selling scanners. I waited until GRE had a SALE to buy a GRE PSR-400. I paid only $ 150. I waited until "the shack" had a very good sale on the PRO-106 (portable) digital scanner. Nice unit -- but NOT worth more than $ 400. I paid $ less than $ 300. Scanners cost to much. The costs will come down -- provided scanner geeks - like us -- don't all panic and rush out to buy junk that is over priced. There is no NEED to get a new Digital unit -- until the local agencies "make the move". That's not going to happen -- in the Northwest -- for most agencies until 2016 or later. As they say at the race track -- "Just sit chili". WAIT unit the prices come down. You have lots of time.

Is there even a question here?

I go 2 days without my scanner and my nose starts to run, I get the shakes bad.

I say fock the rent, I'm buying another scanner this month!
And who needs cable TV when I got me a SCANNER?

Well just because TV went to digital don't mean scanners shouldn't go digital.
when tv went digital this year they nag ang the veawers to go and buy digital converter for their old tv sets, may they give a small digital converter for our scanners yes
some times digital is just nothing but :bsflag:

Well, how else are you going to decode P25 transmissions?

But is it worth it?
not all of us can afford these new hyped up P25 scanners.
programable scanner replaced the old crystal scanners if you remenber those
scanners. back than you have to buy a lot crystals to hear what going on out there.
but when the programable scanners came everyone was happy know you don't have buy crystals no more, you push in your frequncies, but now digital P25 step in and here we go again.

I think you need to go back and re-read MTM's post. At least in the Pacific Northwest there isn't a lot of digital as yet. I don't know what they are doing in the PHX and surrounding areas. In addition, there is more than one fire service nationwide which have gone to trunking and returned to VHF/UHF for numerous reasons. Digital will come. You will have to figure your time line for your area. It goes back to the law of supply and demand. Right now there isn't a great supply. If the demand grows considerably, the prices will stay up. If the demand doesn't go up significantly, the prices should drop, even a little just to move inventory. I go back far enough that when I started listening in Portland all I had was a multi-band radio. I remember when Radio Shack came out with the PRO-37 (I believe) it was around $300.00. These prices did come down.

As to another question asked, according to Grove Enterprises the GRE PSR500 has P25 NAC capabilities.

As to why they push digital at the stores. They have inventory that needs to be sold. They will do anything to sell it. Pure and simple.
