Several decodes of all 00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000, and a few with the capcode of ?????????. Nothing tangible yet.

Did your d-tap require a resistor or RC filter?

I'm almost thinking that your LINE-IN jack isn't working and/or is too low of volume...

I went with the audio output for now, since the PSR output jack apparently doesn't have disc capabilities. Here's what I've been getting...?

Ah okay. Yep that looks about right. The tricky part is just playing with your volume levels... that's the best you can do with the audio out.

POCSAG seems to be no problem but the FLEX decoding is much more complicated...

Finally snared a whole text message- out of watching maybe 100 or so go by. Too tired to think anymore, getting up at 0600 with kids. Thanks for y'all's help.

Just FYI, on my primary laptop (which is older - 2006 era) doesn't work well with the decoding of FLEX data.

My Asus eePC which has a nice HD audio chipset works 100% with PDW thru the MIC jack @ 50% levels.

So I think the lesson learned is it requires a newer sound card with a good (quality) chipset.

Anybody figured out capcodes, baud rates, etc for Snohomish County fire district 1 and or 7?

I've decoded quite a bit from PDW but what I'm specifically looking for seems to keep eluding me. Isn't that the way it always goes?

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

All of Snohomish County and for sure District 1 and 7 run off of 152.0075. As for cap Codes once you get PDW to work right you will receive the Cap Code address in PDW. Baud rate is 1200

The trick is to try to figure out which Cap Code goes to which unit? For a simple Medic call you might get a page for the Medic Unit, A BLS unit, and then the B.C. so he knows where his people are.

OK, so disc tapped my old-ass Pro-94, since that's about the only thing it's good for, and I'm still getting crap. Took the positive and ran it to the proper pin, grounded the negative on a screw on the chassis, ran them out to a 3.5mm jack, which plugs into the line-in for the soundcard.

Which part did I screw up? And does anyone know of a step-by-step or walkthrough for this? I am incompetent as hell for electronics.

Try putting a small cap (.01uf) in series with the wire going to the tap point. I'll spare the long explanation but it should help.

after getting my setup to work well via the soundcard input I decided to give it a try with a 2-level and then a 4-level fsk and compare the results.. I had a heck of a time getting the serial to work as the xp_slicer driver does not want to install on vista (x64) so I opted to set up xp in a vm and use a serial port pass thru.. I can get pdw in the VM to see the data coming in via the serial port but it decodes maybe 1/20th of what the line-is is giving..

maybe the VM has too much overhead to decode the serial port input fast enough.. I also tried using a headphone splitter into the d-tap on my scanner then plugging line-in to one end and the 2-level fsk onto the other.. same results but surprisingly the line-in is still going strong.. though the 4-level fsk seems to see data coming in it never actually outputs anything..

any ideas?

A lot will depend on the VM architecture. A slicer times the RTS (or whatever line is used) transitions against the system clock. If the host OS binds the hardware with its driver then exposes it to the VM with a hardware emulation API it will probably be a little shifty and drifty to the decoder application. On the other hand, it might work ok if the host OS has no driver and lets a driver hosted by the VM directly bind to the hardware. One way around this mess is to boot an OS your decoder application is happy with off a USB stick.

Well, DSTE helped my technologically-illiterate ass with the cap and a resistor, but now I'm fighting levels.

What kind of soundcard (or chipset) do you have Wil?

As I said in a previous post, it seems to work best with newer sound cards/chipsets. If you have an older one, you may need to upgrade. (They are pretty cheap nowadays.)
