Hmmm...weird...I've gotten permission only twice and both times was able to hear aircraft comms just fine, but they really dropped off significantly when I moved the radio away from the window...I had an aeronautical chart with me and I was able to hear the VORs as we got within about 40-50 miles (knew this 'cause also had a GPS running at the same time). One of the flights was a United flight. They usually broadcast the comms on their in-flight audio system so I was able to do a bit of comparison between what I heard on my BC-235 scanner and the in-flight audio. About half the time, I could not hear the other aircraft on 'our' frequency in the same 'sector' used by the FAA Center controller. Those flights were usually behind us or ahead of us (and not to either side of us) so was purely a matter of distance and attentuation.
: Ok I have a question. Ok I got permision from the Captain of the Airplane I was on, to use my 245 XLT,during the flight. How come at 38,000 ft I could not pick up any aircraft comunication? till I got back onthe ground and in the termenial??
