Hey a dipole costs almost nill man so your gonna love this, especially when creating one for police bands, cause you are going to use less wire! First step, get yourself the 27 feet of copper wire sold by the RadioShack or who-ever...make sure its copper. The math is pretty simple, using the standard dipole formula of 468/F (F being your wife's frequency optimaly, or if you choose, the center of the band she's on...where F is the frequency in MHZ. The solution is in feet. So once you get that value DIVIDE it by "2" because this is an antenna that will use only two legs. Not like the 8 or 10 your discone has. So now cut your wire to the lengths and hook up one to the rigid wire, and one to the braided wires of your coax cable. NO GROUND NEEDED! DONT GROUND THIS THING! Just hang it by each end form a high spot (try to keep it close to your rig though so you dont lose anything from line loss). And lastly...and maybe most important...while your enjoying the inreased gain...have a tall cool one, i suggest Coors, or if you wanna get fancy...your favorite import. Enjoy.
