: I have noticed that at times here in the group posters will post frequencys that scanners can not pick up.
:[...]: What gives everyoen?

All this assumes the frequencies are in fact valid.

Like you I have often noted the unusual step sizes (relative to my BC245) on lists of government frequencies, and mil freq ranges in particular that are not covered. [sigh]

Like so many others, this can be an expensive hobby! ;')

One of the most expensive burdens for any industry is HISTORY. This is because you get an installed base of the older technology and you somehow have to introduce the new stuff and maintain interoperability with the old for real practical reasons ($$$$$$$). Then, of course, there is everyone making the case for yet another standard! Lastly, there is such a wide variety of requirements (range, portability, cost, reliability, etc.) -- that you end up with a lot of different solutions.

Just as an example, here's what an AR8000 can do for frequency coverage, step size, and modulation types:

Frequency Range
500kHz to 1900MHz
Receive Modes
AM, NFM, WFM, USB, LSB, CW
Frequency Step Size
50/100/200/500Hz
1/2/5/6.25/9/10/12.5/20/25/30/50/
100/200/250/500kHz
or any multiple of 50Hz up to 999.995kHz

I don't think it does trunked systems... but sounds like a nice unit, huh?

Have fun,

Mark
