The Lincoln docked about 10:05AM, nudged into place by two Foss tugs and two Navy tugs working VHF Channel 74 (156.725). She was about 4 nautical miles out when she really slowed down, and it took about an hour to get her into port. Two Blackhawk-looking choppers scoured the area around the ship. Right at 10AM, her scheduled arrival time, a flight of three EA-6B radar jammer aircraft overflew the Lincoln at about 300 feet then headed East over Everett. Unfortunately, they flew over only once.
The ship has a UHF trunking system, but all comms heard so far have been encrypted -- data bursts then white noise.
Media reports say the first 58 men off the ship are new dads seeing their infants for the first time.
: The carrier ( with approximately 3,000 folks aboard) is scheduled to arrive at 10AM Monday, Feb.12 -- Lincoln's birthday -, and it may be pretty interesting to listen to various frequencies.
: You'll have to be pretty close to the Navy station to hear their 400-meg Motorola trunking system:
: 407.150 407.950 408.750 409.550 (the last three are rotating data channels).
: And, of course, searching the marine band ought to be fruitful for Coast Guards and Vessel Traffic System.
: Today (Sunday), a pre-homecoming party is scheduled.
