: : I am a rookie using a PRO-91 trunking scanner, what is the Sbit?

: This is part of the problem. The Pro-91 is an earlier trunk ttracking model, where the manufacturers used the consumers to help them say, "oh yeah, we ought to factor in THAT!"

: In this case, it is status bits that may be fouling you up. Ever look for a talkgroup, only to see that the traffic you want to hear is on a group with a value exactly 3 higher than the one you expected? (eg: 22315 instead of 22312)

: This has to do with various system status bits, which have been explained in rather clear detail in older posts below, as well as in various articles referred to in posts here. This may be part of your problem. The other one being what previous posters have said here, and that is, are you listening to a system the a unit using the TG you want to hear is affiliated.

: I strongly recommend learning how to use Type I (rather tha Type II) talkgroups on your scanner. I have two Pro-91's (I didn't learn the first time) and I run them both in this mode. It works quite well, you just need to learn the difference between the way talkgroups are identified. There is an article at this site, under the Wash State freq listings (King County section) that addresses the difference, and how to use type I. I don't miss anything with mine setup this way, and don't need to enter the variations of any talkgroups I want to follow.

: If you are listening to Seattle's system, more often than not, you will NOT hear the KCPD Tac channels, and vice versa. This board is a valuable resource for learning the various tricks to listening in the Puget Sound area. It does, however, require some time invested in reading the history of posts to glean this information. Take the time to do so, and you will find it is well worth it.
