: Can anyone explain Tacoma pd's officer call signs. Specifically what the letters, numbers, etc. mean in terms of the sector location, beat location, shift number etc. I know that there are 4 sectors, 2 north 2 south but thats about it. I'm trying to figure out the call signs used in Tacoma as well as I know Seattle's eg. 1SAM1 = 1st shift, sam sector, beat one. I've had no luck researching this. thanks
The letters designate the shift and if it is a 1 or 2 man unit, eg. H41 would be a night shift 2 man unit. I don't recall all of the letter designations, but will try to find out for you. the first number in the call sign indicates the sector. 1 is NW, 2 is NE, 3 is SW and 4 is SE. The dividing line for East and West is Pacific Ave. The SAM units are sector sergeants, their numbers have no sector designation. Hope I could help.
