A reasonable receive signal level is -107 dBm. A typical transmitter is say +50 dBm (100W ERP). The difference is 157 dBm between the two. Now calculate the free space loss with this formula.
39.6 + 20(log) frequency in MHz + 20(log) distance in miles
Subract the result from the +50 dBm ERP and if it's still greater than -107 dBm you should hear it. What's not figured into the formula are the obstruction losses and NexTel(or other)desense values. Your on your own to figure those.
