Some of them still have paramedic certification, and some have let it lapse...at least, one of the Bellevue Fire MSO's I spoke to indicated they are NOT dispatched as an "additional" Medic unit anymore...just because the comm center can't be sure if the MSO of the day is still Certified or not. They are only supposed to go if there's a supervisory issue - however, they can lend a hand to a Medic unit on a serious call (Plan A or whatever). They are supposed to be the shift supervisor for the medics, and take care of their equipment/paperwork/decision making issues. And, they respond to Fire incidents to assist the Batt Chief in implementing the Incident Command System (usually as the "Rehab" or "Safety" officer).

: MSO Stands for Medical Service Officer, it is Medic 1's supervisors sometimes they are dispatch out when there is no inservice medics. Or sometime they are dispatched in addition to medic units.
