There is no specific rule prohibiting monitoring news aircraft, but I do believe that there is a rule about receiving a remote broadcast, which would likely include aircraft, and aircraft are usually on the same channels as remote broadcasts. It doesnt really matter anyway because you are doing so in the privacy of your own home, no one really cares, and it is just another unnecessary piece of legislation that wastes time and money.

: : I believe the reasoning of that rule is so that news agencies can't "spy" on each other and find out about stories by listening to the competition. I may be wrong, but that sounds to me like it is right.

: : : Why can the news people listen to everyone elses business but we can't listen to them? That's crazy.

: : : : : Does anyone happen to have the frequencies for the News Choppers? I saw several of them flying near my apartment a few days ago, and never did figure out what they were looking at. I never even saw anything on the news. Any help would be most appreciated.

: : : : Sure. Here are the freqs used by news stations to talk to remote units, including choppers. Note: It is supposed to be illegal to listen to stations talking to their units, so be warned.

: : : : KING/5: 455.5125
: : : : You will hear the station as "K-I-N-G base" and the chopper is "SkyKing"
