: : The Snohomish County Sheriff is now using a number of Chevy Impalas. Considering the location where you saw the car, I would venture a guess that the car is an unmarked Snohomish County Sheriff's vehicle. It is common for law enforcement agencies to use "plain plates" (standard 3 number, 3 letter combination) on unmarked vehicles.
: : I see more and more agencies using the Impala instead of the Crown Victoria. I think that this car may become the patrol car of choice in the next few years.
: Front wheel drive V6 from what I understand? (2000 model) no wonder it seems attractive to depts. I wonder what kind of get up and go it has?
A lot of you may already know this but.......... A lot of Law Enforcement agencies lease their vehicles from a leasing company that specializes in "police" vehicles . The expense is far less than purchasing the cars outright and the leasing company in some cases are responsible for the maintenence depending on the contract that the agency signs. In the past few years Ford motor company had the L.E. vehicle program "locked up" because they were the only ones that had a decent vehicle that could meet the operational requirements of most agencies. Cheverolet and Chrystler took them selves out of the market because they knew they could not compete . Chevys last foray was the Butt ugly impala that you still see from time to time, The car could go ! but the handling characteristis were not the best . Also a lot of warranty problems. Any how , looks like Chevy might be trying to break back into that market share . I haven't heard any particulars on the new rig but I too have observed them . Sheriff Bart of Sno County has been driving a forrest green one for about the last two years . Thought you all may be interested in the latest ...... regards Artey P.S. Thanks for he reply on P.L. Tones for Lern And Osccr !!!!!!!!!!!!!1
