Preorder with no price?

Has some strange gaps in coverage as per specs.

When will they clue in to the fact that cellular is digital and change the gap?

FCC is kind of slow!

Yeah it is weird Jim. I don't like the touchscreen interface either. (No physical keypad.)

I won't buy until after it has been thoroughly reviewed and tested.

I predict it'll be around 2500 USD.

No DMR?
No trunking?

No point.

And who cares that it doesn't do the 800mhz cell bands? There's nothing there to listen to.

Nice SD card slot. 2010 called...

Still really nothing exciting as yet... and the funny thing is the NRD-545 sounds WAY better than the 8600 in terms of audio fidelity... :P

Hands on evaluation of R8600. I spent three hours playing with an R8600 last night and after figuring out how to change it from Japanese to English, I have to say that I was extremely pleased with the radio. This is not a full evaluation as I was just using a friends unit. I did notice the locked out frequencies were a pain in the tush so I hope somehow someone will find a way to allow the "other than cell phone" frequencies that were given back in the bandplan change December a year ago. The radio does NOT do trunk but it does just about everything else I'd ever use. Tuning was great and you can set the steps. Oh, there is an English manual on line for it so you can read all about it. It has an RJ45 on the back for interfacing and I set up the URL for the Nat'l Bureau of Standards. Then pushed the button for time sync, and within seconds, the radio clock set. I did have to adjust the UTC offset for here (-7 right now. The radio does not have a daylight offset that I found). The unit was designed for remote controlling BUT I see the remote control is not available yet. I did not get to play with any of the external I/O lines. Many menu's are accessed by pushing the Band A, B, or C buttons rather than the MENU button, but those made changing bandwidths and modes much easier than stepping through the MENU lists. The audio sounds great, and the squelch is easily accessed via a Band button push. It took a very short time before I was convinced that I had to have one so I'll be putting in my priority hold in on Monday.

Release date is July 2017 and MSRP is $3,000 (so figure 2599-2799 range) at launch.... perhaps $2999?
