Hi the talkgroup 53872 has been active on the Tacoma trunked radio system. It sounds like some kind of security or other services for a school but i am not certin for sure. They were talking about checking rooms and locking lockers. Any help would be great.

Thanks -Louie-

I have started picking this up as well (twice now). Although it does sound like some security for a school, I did hear last night at about 2 in the morning saying that the kitchen was secured. Arguably every public school has a kitchen, I found it unusual that it was being secured at 2 am.

Does Ruston or Fife PD have their own talk groups?

What about Fife or Milton PD's ??? Could they be on the Tacoma System. Someone has asked why they can no longer hear them on VHF ( 155.49 ) ??? --- It is possible that it could be just a simple "City" security service to protect some type of city building -- like the County / City Building or a City Office.

What would be nice is a complete list of the talk groups on the Tacoma system--I see some that I don't recognize.

During the storm I heard it again and I wonder if it something like remann hall. a man identified as 8xx was talking to a woman. She said everyone was locked down (can't tell if this meant hunkered for the storm or like a jail lock down). They then discussed the dormitory and she told the man to call her to discuss the problem with the dormoriory.

Also I just heard TFD doing a test on 54711.

Ps if there are any spelling mistakes, sorry internet is down and I am using a blackberry.

53392 and 53872 are basic TG's. But 54679 (54672) and 54711 (54704) are not. 54679 is 54672 -- F-2, Fire / EMS and 54711 is 54704 - F-1 Fire Dispatch. The odd numbers are status or private call / patch numbers. The TFD was testing or calling another unit or TG within the system. The 53392 would be assigned to the Public Works Division. As for 53872 -- ???. Remann Hall or some other government building are very possible locations.

City-County building is out, I was there late last week and saw the deputies with the standard VHF portables, and the contracted security with ancient Moneyrola 1-channel portables.

Juvie sounds plausible; a kitchen has things that need securing when inmates are around.

Isn't there also some sort of halfway house on hilltop somewhere? Forward House or something?

I went to "the google" and typed in remann hall, progress house and DOC and found a large work release facility (Progress House)at 5601 6th Ave. Maybe thats the site since it sounds like a DOC facility and could be on the Tacoma/DOC system

So do you need to put in both sets of numbers ie 54679 and 54672, 54711 and 54704?

5601 6th Ave? Sounds like it's next to the new Carl's Jr ;)

Progress/Forward...I was close enough.

Is it big enough to warrant this radio traffic?

(I really need to start listening to the Tacoma TRS)

EDIT: Google Earth shows it's plenty big enough to warrant a TG or two on the system. More investigation is on order.

Programming talkgroups (TG's) is dependent upon which scanner you are using. The Radio Shack units are only able to receive the Basic TG number. If your scanner has enough room -- program it in.
