I just (at 0145) had this text exchange with a friend:

Her- Hey! My (redacted) power is out! I tried using my laptop because it's always charged but I can't get on the Internet. You know what's going on?

Me- Um, is your router or modem on a battery backup?

Her- No! I don't know what that means!

Me: Are the lights on your router flashing or on?

Her- No! No lights on router box or lamps or anything!

Me: You can't get on the Internet on your laptop til the power is back on. The router needs this little thing I like to call "electricity".

Her- WTF? Doesn't it get power from the telephone lines?

Me: This is me going to sleep now. Good night and good luck.

Followed by a long open mike trail where one could hear laughter in the background.

Anything on the radio about BFI? Just had a Dreamliner pass over inbound. Sounded more like a P-51 than a jet. Very loud, took it for a prop plane til I saw it.

Did you look underneath it? Lots of test flights exercise the emergency Ram Air Turbine, which is a big noisy windmill.

SPD South- "Caller states unknown person knocked on his front door one time, about 20 minutes ago. Stated he needs to leave to pick up his daughter from school but is scared to leave the house."

This is what apparently passes for an adult male (and parental role model) in Seattle these days.

(Or maybe I just need less coffee and P-25, eh Jim?)

Same guy who called about his motion light being activated.

The Girl Scouts are out selling cookies lately.., perhaps?

This country is getting pussified.

Local UHF business freq:

User 1- "Hey Brian, where are ya?"

User 2- "Uh, I'm in a meeting for about the next 10 minutes, can I call you after- (sounds of toilet flushing)..."

User 1- "Sounds like you're in a meeting with management."

Commuting, a comparison:

Sean's wife drives him to the train station in the morning.
Wil drives himself.

Advantage: Sean

Sean makes his train and settles in to read.
Wil stops for coffee and misses the train, forcing him to take the bus.

Advantage: Sean

People on the train generally sleep, read or quietly play on their iPads.
People on the bus snore, fart and, in this morning's case, stand up and scream at their fellow passengers that it's illegal to photograph on a bus under Federal law and they know, as they're an "undercover CIA agent".

Advantage: Still Sean

Sean walks about 4 blocks to his office.
Wil walks 4.5 blocks to his, but gets to cut through a wooded garden area where he can, for 5 seconds, pretend he's not in the city but in the woods, stalking a deer with a cigar in his mouth (Wil's mouth).

Advantage: Draw

Sean sits through endless meeting at work.
Wil is taking a break from putting tourniquets on mannequins, stabbing them with IVs and generally accosting them with various tortu- um, medical devices.

Advantage: Wil (finally)

Bonus round:

The Inlaw wakes up around noon, watches re-runs of Bonanza on his iPhone, and the nice nurses on his ward bring his pills when HE wants to take them.

Advantage: This one should be obvious.

I drive myself now. Otherwise, very accurate. And sad.

Corrections:
1. Gunsmoke.
2. It's a made in USA moto x.
3. I don't have a nurse, but that's a brilliant idea.
4. I think I'll call the farrier to have the mare shod, then go ride. Who knows, I may even see a chunk of concrete.

Seriously, what sadistic SOB schedules a 1900 meeting on a Friday. In Redmond?

I have the daily 0700/0800 meetings, but really? Tomorrow is going to be one long day.

You act like it's out in the boonies.
You live off a state highway, 6 miles from one of the longest north-south highways in the US. You have a pretty good chance.

How dumb was getting your off-road rocket licensed? I'm thinking of buying a slightly used Honda Foreman.
