I dont recall the Humvees being tested as pursuit rated but would have to review all the test data. where they able to top 100mph?

I remember reading somewhere (around eight years ago), but can't recall the source. I think the reason I remember is it was kinda hard to believe.

I can't say for the civilian versions getting 100, I was only able to the Army 6.5 motors to 65mph. They sounded like they were going to pop.
The Military versions have a secondary reduction at the hub.

Here's data about the Cherokee Police Package with road test comparisons: http://www.allpar.com/squads/police-cars/cherokee.html

Its interesting that my generation of Cherokee beats a CVPI by mir fractions of a second. I have a 1994 which is a 2nd generation Cherokee.

Cool! I have every test from about 99 on up but not some of the earlier ones...

Only bad thing I can say for a fleet-use Jeep, when all the junk was installed and driver was 'geared' up for duty, it got cramped.
I swapped out the electric seats for manuals on my POV Jeep to lower the seat height.

Jefferson County had their two tallest deputies in Jeeps at one time... Im surprised they still can stand up straight... Im 6'1" and somewhat skinny and its perfect for me.

Never had power seats though.

These guys were both bigger than me.

Jeep will be offering the Grand Cherokee as a special service vehicle soon so may see Jeeps as a patrol again soon...

For a long time the Klickitat SO was an all Cherokee fleet. The timber and range deputy still has a green one. The run mostly Exploders now and I have heard that they realy miss their Jeeps.

I remember those from the late 80's through the 90's when I worked in Roosevelt. Bingen had Camry's. One of the last areas for WSP UHF vehicle repeaters.

Speaking of the 80's, I think it was Renton police running what appeared to be Volvo 242's. I bet those were not "pursuit rated" unless you were pursuing a VW Bug.

Beaverton had one. The WSP had a turbo Volvo wagon about 7-8 years ago with a mag mount

Volvo did have some police package vehicles although never tested by Michigan nor Los Angeles County that I know of.. And I never got to build one...

Id like to have seen the Vette that that they were running in Grays Harbor or Pacific County for a few years...

There was an old WSP poster that shows it...

I actually miss working on the old 78-91 style Caprice Classic cars... Kinda fond of em being the first car I ever drove en such.

Back around '91, I seen a Cherokee with a plow & WSP logo in Spokane.
My guess it was used plowing the Troop's driveways.

Seeing the new 2011 Crown Vics show up now in the County Roads shop ready to be built...

End of an era... Although I said that about the Jeeps and got to build one that had been something else for a year and a half...

http://www.ford.com/fordpoliceinterceptor/

The cars a Taurus (rebadged to this platform)... Were guessing that the utility will be an Explorer redesigned platform...

??

Looks good but how many entities can purchase new cars? I hear Portland wont buy any new cars, more concerned about stocking tires and such for the last purchase year and preceding 2008. I see a big market for retrofitting current models for say $10-12k. Unless there is a stimulus, I bet we see late 2k models well into the next decade.

Nah mate.... Caprice!

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_6NbRkTM7oUc/T ... Impala.jpg

Big issues on the Charger include lack of decent brakes, 30,000 mile spark plug change interval, overall room...

Caprice beats it in the recent test in most aspects... Im betting on an upswing in the number of GM products we see stopping us for those minor traffic infractions...
