I cannot get this thing to work- damn. I'm using the PSR500, tried both the disc output and the earphone output, nothing. I have three jacks on the keyboard, two headphone and a mic. Then, of course, the program offers Disc outputs, headphones, mics, speakers, etc, wtf?

The program port certainly will not work. You need an actual D-Tap of the audio.

I'm using an old BC 245XLT with a line from headphone jack to mic in on the computer and it works 95% of the time.

Yup and the Line IN jack is a must. Since most laptops don't have this now, the decoding accuracy drops to about 75%... the Line IN is about 98%...

Disc tap output to line-in input to computer- done. Now, what settings for interface?

Ps- PDW, MDTMON, Taxi MDT all no go so far.

Just try Discriminator 1 for now. That works great for me. Sample at 44100. Make sure the Soundcard box shows your soundcard Line-In jack. Invert data is auto.

Under Options make sure all of the POCSAG boxes are checked in the first row (the baud rates) and the Flex boxes should all be checked (last one is greyed out.)

My wife, sensing my mounting frustration, gave me some great advice:

"Wil, put the gun down".

She may be on to something.

Reminds me of a story I read back in the 90's, actually an edition of the annual "Darwin Awards".

A college student punched out the window in his dorm, fell 19 floors to his death, from frustration with his computer.

Perhaps your wife needs to amend her statement with something like: "step back from the window, put down the gun..."

On a more serious note, my next guess would be to look for ground noise or ground loop, and perhaps an impedance issue.

A scope is handy for these things, don't know if you have one handy...

Wil, try the computer's mixer. Open the mixer controls and un-check the LINE-IN jack. You should able to hear the scanner data thru the computer's speaker. If not then you have a problem. (I set my LINE-IN jack at 50% input level.)

If the audio is coming thru and PDW doesn't get anything then something is really wrong on the computer side (i.e. the interface settings in PDW are not set correctly.)

No mixer, but I played with the levels a bit. Now, when a page goes through, I get a message along the top of the screen "Flex 4 Level 3200 Phases A/B..." or "Pocsag 1200", but nothing below...?

Okay so it's detecting the data stream... but something is preventing the decoding... usually a bad signal...

For grins, try using the MIC input. See if that makes any difference.
