What I found interesting is, the 700MHz app listed above was first started in 2001, according to the file.

Yup. Looks like the "State" license for 700 Mhz. It's to cover any needed future use -- but not likely to be used -- unless some LAW enforcement agency -- other than the State, ever applies to use 700 mhz. So far -- the 700 Mhz is allocated soley to "Transit Operations" in the Metro Seattle area. Spokane County / City are planning to move over to 700 Mhz --- but it could be a very long time before that happens. No cash -- no equipment. Nothing yet in writing. 2011 or later. The WSP "State" license is a blanket permit for statewide use. But there is no one to talk to and the WSP is NOT going to move it's operations over to 700 Mhz. The license is there -- but there is no plan for use. At one time -- most State Police or Highway Patrol had a "CB" License. But most agencies no longer use "CB''s.

Yea, ditto Fox's post. Does that mean that WSP is experimenting with VHF trunking? How do you know Jay?

As others have pointed out, it means that scanners older than those made in the last 3-4 years may have an issue receiving the signal because it will be narrow FM.

As to how I know Jay, let me put it this way: His office is less than a minute's walk from mine.

Happy listening.

I have some updates straight from the equine's jaws, as it were.

The Burlington Hill site is one of two (I'm unable to say where the other is) that are being outfitted for both VHF trunking and VHF narrowband conventional. The equipment, frequencies, and funding are all coming from the federal side, and are designed (in part) to be WSP's "portal" to the federal IWN system.

I am unable to go any deeper on that topic as it has been deemed confidential. HOWEVER -- I can assure all those with electronic ears that the existing in-car radio system is not going to be changing any time soon.

Happy listening.

Talk about snail mail if they just received it last week!..:) So question on that for clarification; is that the date the application was granted approval or date a monetary grant was approved? I also see the buildout deadlines are Jan 2012 and Jan 2017.

I'm on the road and don't have the details, but if you search the callsign in the FCC Gen Menu Reports, you can see the entire licensing history. The original app was in 2001. There were 3 or 4 administrative entries indicating various transactions.

Regarding 154.785, anyone in Pierce County tell me if this is this the frequency that Sumner is using? I put the frequency in my scanner for WSP and started picking up repeated traffic on it. It comes in best when I get between Bellevue and Issaquah. If Sumner is using it, are they going to migrate to the Pierce County T.R.S.?

154.785 (136.5) is Sumner PD, with an input on 158.925.

Thanks Wil! Any indication of them migrating to the TRS? And I have to see that movie now!

No idea, but I can look into it. I've played with a trunked radio from Lakewood that has a talkgroup labelled "Sumner PD" in it, but for now they're on VHF. I'd assume they'd share time on Puyallup's TRS if they go that route.

Looks like they hired AdComm to look at their options, for both radio comms and their dispatch center. They commissioned a study that started on Sep 15th, and looks to wrap up around the middle of this month.

I await the results with bated breath.
