This morning about 1000hrs I heard Medic 11 dispatched with a Kent engine, I believe it was engine 75.
A couple of minutes later Medic 11 was given a code green and a Medic 100 was responding in its place. After that a transmission from "Medic 100" was called in as Medic 11 and the dispatcher corrected them. At one point to the best of my recollection a transmission went out to Medic 11 and the personnel in the unit corrected the dispatcher to Medic 100.
Is Medic 100 a unit used when the regularly designated unit (in this case Medic 11) is in a training mode? This would be similar to the other odd medic units that have been discussed in this forum before; I believe they were Medic 15 and Medic 17. If that isn't the case are they starting to renumber the units?

Medic 100 is the back-up medic unit out of Station 75. I suspect that if the call came in or around 0900, AND Medic-11 was out of quarters (possibly returning from another call, etc), that the on-coming crew for the day jumped in the reserve rig and handled the call, so the off-going crew (in M-11) could get back to quarters and end their shift.

You will also hear M-100 come up on the air for special detailsls at Pacific National Raceway in East Auburn.

Would you happen to know if there are backup units at other Medic One locations and what their numbers might be. I find this quite interesting.

Most Medic One sites have a reserve medic unit there.
Take Medic 6 for example. The reserve unit is usually Medic 60.

Our Dept. has 5 Medic Units in service and it would not be reasonable to have a Reserve Medic Unit just sitting around at all 5 of our 7 stations. What is common is to have a Reserve Medic Unit fully stocked and ready to go at one of the Stations. And when you have a primary Medic unit go out of service you just transfer Unit Placards and Passports over and use the same Unit number. The CAD does not know that your primary unit is in the shop for a lube & Oil change. Some Department that rely on Volleys would have a Enging 6 and a Reserve Engine 6 Adam. Paid guys with the sticker would go out on a call and Volleys could come in the station and place Engine 6 Adam in service.

FireDawg 89 I don't know which department you are with but I was referring more to King County Medic One, which is not operated by a fire department. I have driven by Medic 6 Headquarters(VRFA Station 31) and also Medic 8 headquarters( South King Station 64) and they both have reserve units parked outside the stations.
