Does anyone else notice poor reception of the signal? Its been this way for the last 3 days or so. I've tried it on My GE superadio III, another older am'fm style radio i have and another reg radio. All three have the same issue on the freq. Its a very loud buzz.Drowning out most all audio. Unless its something in my building causing the interference. I know comcast has been here lately upgrading the coax and all the wiring inside and out. maybe something they did this past week caused this intereference? God i hope not..

Use the radio to find it. The internal AM ferrite antenna on a GE SuperRadio is very directional and should null out a signal (or interference) when the end of the radio is pointed at the source.

Any RV's around you?

Loud buzzing sound is indicative of on of the bad Winegard amplified crank-up antennas of a few years back.

A buzzy am radio is a clue that one of these are near.

Nope none around. I have been looking around the area to see if something new has "popped" up or anyhting that could be responsible. The rest of the other stations come in fine. KIRO, KIXI, ESPN Radio affiliate etc etc. Its just KOMO 1000. Funny cause this is the station that seems to have the best, strongest signal in the area.

I frequency interference on the band would imply something built with a 1meg "clock signal" or crystal...

It could be one of the upgrades or additions by Comcast or something else.

Sound like a game of seek and find is in order...

Well they were in my unit last week 1 day "upgrading" the connection outlets and all the wiring into the building. From what i understand they were putting in all new coax and hardware outside and also in each unit. Noticed this issue since they have been here. Odd thats its on one station only? Did recieve a letter from the complex saying they would have the cable off all day this coming Tues. so maybe the prob. will go away

Are you hearing IBOC noise?? Do you hear it at night only or day + Night ?

whats IBOC? not sure on that.. It seems to be both day and night and its fairly recent. It was gone last night for a few hours, but is back again today... :cry:

The only thing I notice with KOMO is an occasional brief loss of carrier or modulation. Lasts about a half second. Happens in any location and in various vehicles. May occur during a program or commercial.

(1.) IBOC -- In band, On Channel -- Digital broadcasting. Lots of noise over the entire AM band is being caused by IBOC. it appears as a sideband channel -- with load noise that sounds alot like electrical interference. Sometimes it appears "on Channel" with the AM station "In the mud" - blocking the main carrier. The lower the frequency, the worse it gets. (2.) If you hear a drop out of the programing at or near "Sunrise" or "Sunset" -- it's the station changing directional antenna patterns.

:D :D What !!! No oncore requests ??? KOMO Is a Class 1-B station. 50 KW fulltime, but must use a Directional antenna system at night to protect another Class 1-B in Chicago. Illinois ( also operating with 50 KW fulltime ). The nightime antenna system uses 3 towers and aims toward the north-northeast and almost due south. If, at night it fades in or out or drops off -- it would be beacuse you were in a null. And almost all nulls are caused by the wizard of Ozz. LOL MTM

Im not a broadcast engineer but know a couple. Ill ask but I believe they lower the power at night.

In fact Ive heard some stations down in L.A. say "Excuse us as we lower the power- ah there ya go"

Besides me, what other broadcast engineer do you know ??? KOMO is a 1-B -- fulltime 50 KW station. Most of the AM stations in the Seattle = Tacoma area use the same power day and nigh. There are a few that have lower night-time powers - but not many. In fact, Vashon Island is home to at least 5 or 6 high powered -- 50 KW stations. :D :D

KOMO is read-able at night here in Spokane, just like KGA is read-able over there at night.

Matter of fact, I enjoy listening to traffic reports on I-5; 280 miles away. :mrgreen:
