I have a Bearcat scanner in my security vehicle. It came from Ebay and I have no instructions on programing. Is it possible to scan Bend P.D. or do they use the MDT's so not much is heard? Can anyone tell me how and what to enter into the scanner?? Thanks in advance.

Bend PD is on a trunked radio system so it depends on whether your scanner has trunking capability. What is the model number of the scanner ?

The BC350C does the 800mhz band but not trunking. You will need a trunk-tracking scanner....

I can hear some conversations from Bend PD. Does this mean I am only hearing a small portion of the conversations?

Yep. A trunk system uses a handful of frequencies, so if you scan all the frequencies then you should be able to hear everything. The problem with hearing everything is that one minute you'll hear Bend PD and the next minute you'll hear the Bend dogcatcher since a non-trunk scanner has no way to tell them apart. When the system gets busy you start to lose pieces of conversations and end up hearing stuff from the other agencies you aren't interested in listening to. A trunk-tracking scanner can sort this mess out so you can pick & choose what you want to listen to.

I just picked up a an extra scanner for my truck, the PRO2055, which is on sale at Radio Shack for a few more days at $179.99 ($50 off).

So far, I really like the scanner. It operates differently than my BC780XLT, but it works great. I've got all of the Deschutes County/Bend PD/Black Butte-Sisters channels in and working awesome.

The cable from my Yaesu VX-5 works to program it from the computer too!

I have a Ft-50 Yaseu 3 pin w/ 4 pin adapter, I was going to try on my icom V8000. It takes the same kind of pin, I wonder if it's wired in a way which would allow the Yaseu cord to work with the icom...Hmmm.
To bad there wasn't a collaberated website listing a cross reference to wires, adapters and the like.
