Post subject: | Tualatin River NWR |
My latest mystery project is figuring out the radio system for the Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge in Sherwood, OR. The refuge is managed by the US Fish & Wildlife Service. I spent some time at the refuge headquarters and visitors center off of 99W yesterday. A couple of observations - There are a number of USFWS marked SUVs at the headquarters building but no antennas on the vehicles or the building. None of the uniformed employees I spotted at the refuge had radios or cell phones on their belts. The refuge covers a large area in Washington and Yamhill counties and would call for some sort of radio system, I would think. I had radios searching the federal VHF & UHF spectrum and one running close call, but no radio emissions were detected during my stop. In the past I have logged traffic on a common USFWS frequency of 172.2750 MHz, 156.7 PL, but have no way of confirming if that has anything to do with Tualatin River NWR. Some have suggested IWN, but I have no information that USFWS is a subscriber to the IWN, but certainly a possibility. Another is that they lease radios on some sort of SMR or DMR trunked system, also certainly possible. And they might just use cell phones, but I would think they have to have some sort of radios available in an emergency cache of some kind, in case of fires, floods or other natural disasters that might beset the refuge. Any suggestions or discussions would be welcome. - Chris |
