If you haven't paid much attention to the new Portland P-25 sites, you should note that they have added quite a few new frequencies to them, and more traffic is now being heard on the digital side of things.

While all the encrypted tactical groups are still the main users, talk groups from Multnomah County Fire, Multnomah County Sheriff and Portland Police have been showing up more often. They are steered over the P-25 side of the system by someone who has a radio affiliated on the P-25 site, as the activity seems to drop off quite bit at night and on weekends.

The increase in available frequencies for the P-25 side of the Portland trunked systems means they will probably start allowing more users to move over to the new sites soon. Until recently they have been limiting the allowed traffic on the P-25 sites due to only having 3 or 4 frequencies available.

Interesting. I'll need to set my SDR sticks again to monitor.

Continuing with their march towards the P25 system, more and more traffic has started to appear on the Portland digital side this week. I heard the PDX Airport Police on the P-25 side as well as several of the Portland police talk groups. Look for more subscribers using the digital side sooner than later...

Chris how much of it is encrypted? Just the TAC channels or are some other groups encrypted too?

So far just the tactical and detective stuff. I don't think there is too much encryption planned otherwise.

I listened to this while driving south along 205. Faded out towards I 5 split then picked up again courtesy of Goat Mtn site to just about Salem. Sounded decent considering 436 inside vehicle.

P25 side seems to be missing a ton of stuff.....

I was simultaneously watching the analog and digital side...

Stuff was popping up on analog side that wasn't showing on digital.... with a higher signal on the P25 east/west simulcast sites than the 800 analog sites....

go figure....

From what I hear users are still moving over to digital as their radios are upgrade or replaced and they get a digital template.

Check the licenses, there are more sites licensed for the digital simulcast sites than there were for the analog system.

Yes, the system is still in transition, and the 800 side actually has mixed analog/digital traffic differing on who the users are at this time.
