Is the Sprint system decent enough to make something like this worthwhile? Apparently my phone can be a "hotspot" as well, but I don't want to risk getting sucked into a Youtube safari or Netflix marathon and going over my 3 gb allowance.

Can you simply change your existing plan to an unlimited bandwidth?
Tether your laptop to your phone?

That would be more money. I like this device as you can pay daily or monthly. I.e., if I don't use it for a month and then need it every day for a week, I only pay the $5 a day, whereas if I changed my data plan I'd be paying whether or not I was using the "hotspot" feature.

Also, if I were so inclined, I could use something like this for other people to surf the internet, and not worry about them "torrenting" through my phone and killing my data usage.

Doesn't ChPalmer have something like this? I seem to recall it being set up in my living room...

No, at least not for Wil. Verizon killed unlimited plans years ago.

If you find Clearwire's coverage is sufficient, you might as well pick up this device. Initial cost: $99.99. Monthly cost: $0. Includes 500 MB per month and overage is $0.02 per MB.

Isn't this like the device Rich through on the table a couple years ago?

Yes, Wil's way to save money is to spend money. Of course.

Sounds great unless Sprint decides to dump Clearwire's WiMax for LTE.

Freedom Pop isn't related to Sprint.

Let's see...Between $10 and $90 initially (depends on model), plus $5 daily when and if I use it, versus your suggestion to "change your existing plan to an unlimited bandwidth", which would require an all-new contract?

My plan- Let's say the $90 adaptor and...10 (?) days on use in 2 months = $140.

Your plan- $325 early contract termination fee, and all-new contract at (approx.) $110-150 (depends on "fees and taxes") a month, plus a surcharge of $10 per 1 gig over the 5 gig monthly cap.

$140 versus (2 month estimate) $545 (minimum)?

And this for something I wouldn't even be regularly using?

Yes, I'm going to go with your plan. It's only money, right?

On a different carrier no less. Only the bottom 2 of the top 4 carriers give you unlimited.

T-Mo. They actually have LTE too.

T-Mobile? That doesn't even merit a response.

Mines a 3G and costs me about $35 a month with a 3gb limit. I never see more than 1.5gb of use myself though. Since I now have the 4G phone and a tether app Im going to stop the mifi as soon as the contract expires in two months.

VZ's new share everything plans of coarse share the data and costs $20 to add the mifi. + the 2 year contract.
