In doing some site inspections today I paid a little attention to some local Verizon cell sites... These are from two different sites...

This shows the two 850 panels on the ends, and the 1900 (3G) and 700 (4G) panels on the inside... And whats left of the obligatory osprey nest...

And ready to get connected to the yet to be installed outdoor cabinets (on this particular site)...

At my work starting next week, Verizon is going to add 4G equipment on the roof of a lovely 15 story hi-rise so they are bringing out the crane and everything to get everything up there. I'll take some photos, but whats interesting is that Sprint is not just pulling out all of the Nextel stuff (they shut it all off in April) but also their CDMA equipment from the roof too.

Probably reconfiguring their cells a little... They may have found a better site in the area to better cover some dead zones or need to go lower to bring down the footprint of your particular "cell" to add others...

Reconfiguration of an expiring lease could be another issue...

I don't get it- why does BFE North Dakota have 4G LTE coverage and Kitsap County, WA not have it?

So why are they marking the Heliax cable? Just for security/theft/insurance purposes?

Color / tag markings are for identification, to support initial installation and ongoing service.

The imprinted markings that appear more and more on wire jackets are for theft identification.

Which of course does little good when thieving thugs burn the insulation off before selling the copper...

As if any installer bothers to record the manufacturers lot numbers off of the coax... Maybe that's a commissioning requirement now, along with PIM testing??? There are feet/meter markings, but these need to be checked with a tape measure in case of a "printing error" as I discovered "the hard way" that a batch of Eupen cable had been marked incorrectly... but they sent us a reel for free as compensation

Did a cable replacement (poorly sealed connector at bottom of run sucked enough water to fill the center conductor with around a gallon of water and thus saturated the foam dielectric for around 20 feet) and discovered to our horror that the line in question had different labeling at the top from the bottom. So retraced and relabeled everything in addition to changing out the wet run.

Interesting place for the ground bar   ... The photo makes the ground tails appear to be radiused a bit too tight for my (and a good number of cell tech's) liking... and the zinc-plated (as opposed to SS or hot-dipped) flat washer is a no-no    At least the connectors on the new runs were properly sealed

As far as "decommissioning" goes AT&T left antennae on and coax in a monopole in East Bremerton, one which I helped stack (for GTE Wirless) and add TMA's (Cingular GSM upgrade)... Now the radio cabinet is gone... BUT there is a "clearwire" site up there so Crown Castle is still making some money on the pole...

Ever try adding antennas to a "flagpole" tower :?: Generally one has to pull the "unicell"
antenna structure from the top and replace with a larger one which will hold the additional antennas.

And that is if the pole has enough space in it for the additional runs of coax.
And when have you seen a "conventional" AMPS platform cell tower go up in Kitsap County within visual sight of civilization in the last 5 years????????

It may be a long wait....
