So I goes into Best Buy to take a gander at some netbooks. Kinda goes likes this: Employee (looks about 16): "May I help you sir?" Me: "I'm looking at one of these cuz I'm sick of my laptop". Employee: "Well, these aren't really meant to replace a laptop". Me: "Oh really, I wonder why not".. Employee: "They don't even have an optical drive, so you can't download, er, software". Me: "I can't adhoc it from my laptop with a chunk of crossover?" Employee: (Dumbfounded expression) "Uh, er, I guess so".. Me: Waked out. I guess I'll grab one off Amazon or somewhere. BTW, I went with the Vonage. |

Netbook. Yes. Dell. Don't buy a Dell if you know how to type. They keyboard layout is NOT standard. The rest of the machine is really swell though and if you're going to use it with an external keyboard it really has some nice features. Also, don't buy the external small DVD-RW that Dell offers for it. They don't mention a power supply for the DVD-RW and it does NOT work (computer doesn't supply enough current) to run it properly. I waited too long to try and return it and from what the Dell people were saying, they knew it was a bad setup to start with. Of course if you find an external power supply for the I/O Magic drive, it will work fine. The DVD (I/O Magic/Dell) does not come with, nor mention an external power supply anywhere. I'm waiting for an Acer to show up and I'll let you know how that one works out. I have two friends with the Acer units and they both love them. The keyboard is standard (but narrow profile, of course). |

I have an eeepc 1000H (now sells as the eeepc 1000HE). It absolutely rocks. On the go its great and runs all my radio software. At home I can plug it into my HDTV and use a bluetooth wireless keyboard/mouse. Better yet, the price is down to $375. The only negative (extremely minor) is the position of the right hand shift key is nonstandard. Not a big deal overall considering all the good aspects. |

I've heard the things about Dell. I was kinda planning to hook up to my hdtv. I've been waiting to find one with hdmi. Rich, what are you using to hook up? From Netbook to TV? How's the video quality? |

The eeepc has a VGA and stereo connector which plugs straight into the TV. The eeepc video card natively supports 1920x1080 and autodetects the HDTV screen size when plugged in. It works great on the TV. Save the TV HDMI port for your blueray player. The eeepc does a good job of video playback to the TV despite being such a lightweight computer, probably in part because it has an Intel Atom CPU instead of a crappy Via P7M. All in all its a good machine. I checked out all the other netbooks and this one fit my needs perfectly. |

I have an EeePC as well. If you want one at a good price, go to Target. Yes, I'm not kidding you. Target sells them on a endcap in Electronics! |

I looked at target (online), 'cept I wanna at least a 10" screen. Those 9's were kinda cramped but in the same structure as a ten. Maybe they have eeeeee's w/ a ten now at the store. |

I like Amazon. I don't like them being in WA and having to pay tax. I went ahead and ordered one (the HE), tax was $33. Oh well, it's my Bday present to myself.  |

I went around to several stores last week. I wanted one bad enough I almost settled on a 9 inch screen and 3 cell battery. This one has the bluetooth and a supposed to have a 9.5 hr battery life. N280 prossesor. I'm going to hook it to the HDTV on occasion. |

Lenovo is coming out with a newer model of the S series using the new Nvidia chipset. Price point is right around $500. The 1000H is okay but I hate touchpads. When typing, I always seem to hit the friggin touchpad. Rich is also correct about the stupid shift key placement. |

I love the trackpoint from Thinkpads. I've always been a Thinkpad fan. :) |

I believe there is a touchpad disable function when typing. But every now and then I still hit it. It's been working great. I bought the one with extra battery capacity. The only bitch would be Windows {of course}. |
