Anyone know what it takes to view a LAN wi-fi camera(s)?
As in someone elses LAN? With thier cameras?

1) hack the wifi system /join it
2) figure out what camera system they have and either hack it or decrypt it

this really isnt the forum for it, also since this is a more official board in the likes of Law Enforcement your actually asking how to commit digital trespass. with the new wireless LAN laws.

I would suggest going here for such activity http://forums.remote-exploit.org/

its also not as easy as you ask, you don't just "tap into" a 802x camera. You hack into them. You might want to look at something more like this..

It's at a place which offers free wi-fi. There are the small wireless cameras all over the property.
I don't have the intent to 'hack', just wanted to see if it was possible.
Like the old 46-49mhz baby monitors.
I really don't know anything about it.
Thanks for being a law-abiding citizen.

well it works like this, just because you can go there dont mean you have the right to.

you don't have the intent to hack them, but to get access to them you must "hack" i say "hack" because you must reverse engineer a way into them since you don't have rights to do it the appropriate way.

Im not saying it isnt fun, just that this isnt the proper educational area for such activities. the remote-exploit page is the proper area. There is a lot more to hacking 802 cameras then the old baby monitors, It is easy but thats a relative term. If you dont understand how to get into a wifi-network and sniff the traffic then you need to build that skill before you can go to just looking at cameras, once you can watch the traffic then hacking the camera video feed is just as easy as looking at the baby monitors.

So rather then spend the time with a 101 on wireless i suggest going to the remote-exploit area and reading there, you will get much more benefit. your going to need to get some wifi cards that can be put into monitor mode as well as 1) decrypting others traffic on the stream 2) causing arp attacks on the switch to get all traffic pipe to you.

and since all of this isn't "on your test network" but you have stated that its a 3rd party network you would be digitally trespassing ...just because people don't properly lock the gate don't mean you have the right to walk through it.

I would suggest starting out with that 2nd link I provided and getting into the 'backtrack2' linux disto if your interested in the topic. (and also not stating that you want to hack others networks on non hacker related areas which result in the owners of the forum who are located in US law (in the case of intercept) which then possibly are responsible when people reply a how-to)

Im all for people learning this stuff, the more you know the more you can pass on and make a better level of baseline security. Just don't think this is the proper outlet for education on the matter. 80% of cameras on 802 can be monitored and you can view the feeds.

Thank you, you answered my question well. I admit, I am naive in this department, and your post explained a great deal.
