Thought I would try this out as it was on their 'orphan' list at 69.95 Anyone had any luck using one of these?

Now it says $120.
I wonder what is inside which makes it so expensive, or if it could be 'homebrewed' duplicated.
Have you (or anyone reding this) fabricated a WiFi antenna from a coffee can? I've seen a couple photos here and there.

I got it last night, hooked it up this morning. The usual neighbors hotspot that was low signal with the built in antenna was noticeably better signal and picked up a couple more although they were encrypted. I would say if it's on sale, it probably isn't a bad buy. It runs a program similar to netstumbler which you can rescan and shows signal strength.

I also use Microsoft's Network Monitor to sniff around

ok, I logged into a community college hotspot that before was low or no signal 300' or so away. Now it is connecting but still low. I'm impressed so far.

Do you have it set up inside or outside?

mostly in car, I tried it at home where there is an unencrypted signal but that one only works in the driveway, so far. Driving around, it pings quite a few.

Yeah I know, but I wish it came with a good operator manual. Like what all the numbers are and so forth. There could probably be a book written on NetStumbler.
