Ideally looking for something small and portable for those travel areas that cell phones dont work in. IE: we got stuck with a broken truck in eastern washington recently. no cell service. somewhere in the middle of the night along 97 between Ellensburg and Dryden. Looking for an alternate means to call for help when there is no cell coverage on any network to include that Verizon company. Kinda looking for something close to this, but will take something better if it has CB. Sorry dont have a ham license. So need to stay in the "legal" bands.

This is probably your best bet. I've never seen a "small" portable CB radio.

FYI, I'm not sure how much help you'll get on CB. It's pretty dead these days. You'll hear truckers but only on the major highways. Range is somewhat limited too depending on topography.

AT&T should have worked just fine up that way. I've went up I-97 and never had a problem with service.
